        the Skin

How to Use Sea Vegetables.

Sea kelp, dulse and other sea vegetables have been used as a beauty treatment and health remedy for hundreds of years and using it as part of your regular beauty routine is safe, cost effective and guaranteed to produce results. In many countries where people still hold to traditional remedies, seaweed is valued for its ability to re-hydrate and moisturize the skin.

The stresses of everyday life take a toll on the way we look as well as the way we feel. The results of poor eating habits, pollution and fatigue are reflected in our appearance – mainly our skin. Broken capillaries, lack of firmness of the skin, dry skin and annoying irritations are evidences of a hectic lifestyle.

The good news is that these problems can be helped or rectified with just a little effort, time and money. Something as simple and inexpensive as sea weed can stimulate and improve circulation and revitalize the skin by providing the nutrients needed to nourish and detoxify it.

How does this happen?

Sea weeds are full of lipids, proteins, vitamins and minerals which are absorbed naturally through the skin and into the body – benefiting both the outer and inner body. Mineral salts, amino acids, vitamins and trace elements work together to promote regeneration of the skin, leaving a healthy, shiny texture.

Its cellular structure is very close to that of our own skin, thereby enabling our bodies to absorb the nutrients quickly and effectively.

The Nutrients in Seaweed.

Seaweed is ten times richer in trace elements than plants from land. It is a natural product of its environment – unaltered by artificial means.

All sea vegetables contain more minerals than any other food source. Eating sea weed products helps re balance the body to an alkaline state rather than an acid state, a result of the imbalance of modern diet.

iconBody Cleanse for Weight Loss

Natural Weight Loss.

Seaweed is a natural diuretic, so helps with water retention. Due to the large amount of iodine in seaweed, it is able to boost the metabolism and encourage the body to burn fat.

Detox the Body

Using various members of the sea weed family is a natural way to detox the body. They are a rich source of minerals such as calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium and selenium. They are believed to promote circulation and thereby have a cleansing affect on the body, as well as improving elasticity and tone.

iconMaking a Bath

Sea Kelp as an Aid to Beauty.

An evening seaweed bath is a great way to soak away the accumulated stresses of the day – particularly when combined with a sauna. Your local health food store (or supermarket) will have sea kelp or dulse, which are probably the best choices for your bath – although you may prefer others.

When you buy them they will be dry and will expand in water. Just put a little dried sea weed into a pot of water and bring to the boil. Boil for a few minutes and then simmer gently for about twenty minutes. When finished, strain the sea weed and keep the water to add to your bath.

Alternatively, if you don’t have much time simply put the dried seaweed into a hot bath, allowing it to soak for a while, then remove it and hop in. Adding some essential oils will make the experience even better and will help take away some of the seaweed smell (if you are not keen on it). Lavender seems to work quite well for this.

iconBody Wraps

Do-It-Yourself Sea Kelp Body Wrap.

This is well known for being beneficial in the treatment of cellulite and for quick weight reduction - with the reason for this being, very simply, the wonderful detoxifying effects of sea vegetables. Not only does your skin look and feel a whole lot better but your body is also relieved of some of the toxins which have worked so well to produce the problem in the first place.

A paste for wraps can be bought from a beauty store or through the internet, and then applied at home.

First exfoliate the skin with sea salt, as this is also a natural product and leaves your skin free of harmful chemicals. Then prepare your treatment area and apply the paste, as per the instructions. If you have the advantage of doing this with a partner, you can benefit from a massage to finish off your treatment.

It is important to drink enough fluids while both in the sauna and while having the wrap, as both procedures are a cleansing routine and sweating will cause some dehydration.

Add these health and beauty ideas to your regular Home Sauna experience - then see and feel the difference.
