Buckets and Ladles

Two things that every Steam Sauna needs are a bucket and a ladle. The choices range from traditional wood or copper, to the more contemporary stainless steel designs.

Thermometers

The thermostat will control the heat of your Sauna Room, but the thermometer will let you know what the temperature is and whether the sauna is at your desired heat or not. No doubt your sauna supplier will have a range of accessories including thermometers, and may advise you as to which one is your best choice for your particular Home Sauna. The thermometer should be located away from the door and close to the ceiling in order to give an accurate reading.

Headrests, Backrests, Benches and Stools

In addition to the benches that are fixtures, you may need to have some extra benches or stools on had in case of guests. These can be either made to order or, if you are a home handyman, you can make them yourself. The same guidelines apply as for fitted benches and headrests – no protruding nail or screw heads.

Sand Timer

A sand timer is a nice old fashioned way to keep account of your time in your Sauna Room.

Aromatherapy Oils

Some good quality aromatherapy essential oils is a great way to finish off your sauna, and if it is a shared experience, then so much the better.

Use of aromatherapy oils for massage produces positive psychological and physiological effects. These include relief of stress, headaches, muscle tension and sleep improvement.

Applying good quality oils to your

skin after heat therapy will leave your skin glowing - looking clean, refreshed and rejuvenated.

Skin Brushes and Body Scrubbers

Where I live in Asia, a trip to the sauna also means a good scrub down. This is done by a lady or man employed by the sauna for the sole purpose of scrubbing bodies – and scrub they do! To the uninitiated it can be quite painful but the feeling after wards is a little like walking on air. I came away after my first experience having never felt so clean.

It’s no surprise that these people generally have beautiful skin – and virtually no cellulite. A good body brush is an inexpensive but effective tool in beauty maintenance. This would be my first choice in Sauna Accessories.

Towel Warmers and Rails

Having a nice warmed towel to use after a sauna is a little bit of luxury. Why not try it?

Aromatic Dispenser

This is a small stone bowl suspended above the heater by a chain. When full of aromatic essence it permeates the whole Sauna Room, which adds to the atmosphere and will keep your sauna smelling wonderfully clean and inviting.

Humidifier

A small steel tube that fits between the heater elements, and when it is filled with water it adds moisture (and atmosphere) to the room.

Foot Massage and Spa

This is an easy way to have an all-over relaxing experience - taking the opportunity to do some reflexology on your feet while your body is relaxed from the sauna’s heat.

Face Sauna

Using steam as an aid to beauty is quite universal. In Asian countries steam is part of beauty folk lore. In times past, children were told by their mothers to put their face over the freshly served rice in order to allow the steam to wash over their face. The face sauna does a similar job albeit in a more modern way.

Sauna Suits and Belts

There are number of different designs to choose from. These are to be used while exercising to encourage an elevation of body heat – thereby producing an effect similar to that of a sauna. They are reported a having varying results, depending on the article you read.

Fog Resistant Mirrors

If you like the idea of having a mirror in your Home Sauna, then fog resistant is the best way to go. Once again, it depends on your taste and what your interior design preferences are.
